Kyrgyzstan biking: Tour 02 Destination: Kyrgyzstan Activity: Bike tour Duration of the tour: 12 days Explore really wild places in the heavenly mountains of Kyrgyzstan! We want to present you a biking tour, which routes will be along untouched mountain gorges where it is still possible to meet genuine nomads. It is a perfect chance to feel the nature, because you will cycle in places that are so far from the civilization. During your adventure you will see yurts - nomadic felt dwellings, which are very unique and their owners will invite you for a cup of tea or kymis (traditional Kyrgyz drink). Places to visit: Bishkek - Kochkor - Sarybulak - Kichi-Naryn - Naryn town - Son Kul Lake - Kyzyl Korgon canyon - Kyrk-Kyz pass - Ter Jailak pass - Toluk village - Toktogul village - Bishkek City Day 1: Arrival in Bishkek Your guide will collect you from the International Airport of Manas and accompany you to Bishkek City (capital of Kyrgyzstan). The drive from the Airport to Bishkek takes half an hour. After accommodation in a hotel*** that is situated in the tranquil part of the city you will have a rest and you will start the day with a breakfast. Afterwards you will have an excursion to the Natural Park of Ala - Archa that is located on the Kyrgyz ridge (a spur of Tien - Shan), in the Ala-Arch Gorge, 45 km. south from Bishkek. To have a nice view of this famous gorge you will go to the top of a mountain. Transfer back to Bishkek. At 7 p.m. traditional dinner will be served Overnight stay is in the hotel***. Day 2: Bishkek - Kochkor - Sarybulak We start our trip to Kochkor village by car in the morning. Our route passes via Orto Tokoi water collecting reservoir. You will meet a family in the Kochkor Village that shows you the way national felt carpets are produced. During this felt show you even can create your own carpet together with them. After felt show you will visit Kyrgyz handicraft museum in Kochkor. Then ride by the asphalt road to the Village of Sary Bulak (2310 m. alt., 38 km). Transfer (7 km, 2390m. alt.) by bike on dirt road to confluence of Biulioomiu and Kara-Kudjur Rivers. Night is in tent camp.
Day 3: Sarybulak - Kichi-Naryn This day is easy one. You will ride along the Balgart River and Kichi-Naryn River. Riding is on the dirt road. Overnight stay is in the forest near the Kichi-Naryn River in tent camp. Since ancient time this place is popular among the nomads. Shepherds with all their relatives were coming to this area. Some big tribes comprise 1000 yurts and even more! All of them as a big family with a great amount of cattle were going from one place to another. The Kyrgyz nomads like to meet travelers and are very hospitable. Day 4: Ride (63 km) Kichi-Naryn - Naryn town Easy day. We will ride down to the Kichi-Naryn Village (2351m. alt.) after breakfast. It is situated 4 km. from the confluence of Naryn and Kichi-Naryn Rivers. The road to Naryn will surprise you by its beauty and amazing mountains. The whole way will be along incredible gorges and you will have many photo stops! You will cycle to the town of Naryn (2050 m. alt.) along Naryn River. Naryn is a long narrow town that streched along the gorge near the longest river in Kyrgyz Republic - Naryn. The town is situated very close to the mountains, at the altitude of 2800 meters above the sea level. Lunch is on the way. After having lunch we will continue cycling by the main road. You spend this night as nomads do, in yurts! Yurts are collapsible nomadic dwellings that are made of wood without using a single nail and felt. Day 5: Transfer or Ride Naryn - Son Kul Lake This day you can ride or to be transferred over the Kurtka Pass (3243m. alt.) to Son Kul Lake, which is the 2nd largest lake in Kyrgyz Republic. Son Kul Lake is surrounded by mountains and it is the highest alpine lake in Kyrgyzstan, situated at an altitude of 3016 meters above sea level. Kyrgyz nomads started to come to this wonderful area with their families for rest and relaxation. Herders of the Naryn region come to the lake to use it as a pastureland. The first ride's part to the entrance of the gorge is trouble-free with a slight descent. There is a narrow spot where we will enter a narrow gorge with high sharp rock walls, in some places up to 200 meters. A steep rise to the pass begins here. Descent is easier and shorter. Upon our arrival, you will be free to explore and enjoy the untouched nature of the lake and its environs. Dinner. Overnight stay (3016 m. alt.) is in nomadic collapsible dwellings - yurts. Yurt represents wooden frame, covered with thin felt mats. Day 6: Son Kul Lake This day we will spend in the Kyrgyz paradise, at Son - Kul Lake. You will have an excellent opportunity to explore Kyrgyz nature and lifestyle on your own. You can ride along the lake on a horse, or just relaxing in the atmosphere of the wild, but calm nature. It is a great chance to get acquainted with nomadic traditions and culture. We will walk among the Mountains of Tian - Shan where every nomad invites you to his yurt to try national staple drink made of mare's milk - kymis. You will spend this night in tent camp.
Day 7: Ride Son Kul Lake - Kyzyl Korgon Canyon (80km) We will ride after breakfast in the direction of sacred stones with ancient (dating back to 800 B.C.) inscriptions on them. After visiting the petroglyphs site, we leave Son Kul Lake and ride through Kara Keche pass (3381m. a. s. l.) to the Djumgal Valley. It is area of high mountains, red canyons, rocks, snow peaks. Walking is in the Red Canyons. Overnight is in tent camp.
Day 8: Ride Kyzyl Korgon - Kyrk-Kyz Pass 3223m. This day we will pass near the Kizil Oi (Red Canyon) Village. On our way we will see different color rocks, pastures, panoramas. Kizil Oi is small poor village in the mountains. You will have time to walk there to see the life of Kyrgyz people in the country side. You will also see famous red canyons that are completely different from other mountains in Kyrgyzstan. These places always make an impression on the voyagers and all of them want to come back here one more time. Overnight stay is in the tent camp. Day 9: Ride Kyrk-Kyz pass - Ter Jailak pass 2446m - Toluk village (50km) Today our rout will be difficult enough, but we will meet loads of Kyrgyz shepherds on the summer pastures (jailoo). The Kyrgyz nomads are very hospitable and they are always glad to talk with foreign visitors. You could see their felt dwellings and ask them about their life. It is also possible to try national drink kymis that has really specific taste. Kymis is made of fermented mare's milk. Even these days the Kyrgyz shepherds come to this place and you can see how they live in the harmony with nature. Overnight stay is in tents. Day 10: Ride and transfer to the Toktogul Village We will start cycling after breakfast. Our chauffeur will drive behind us. The road has a plenty of incredible views and when you are there it becomes clear that the best creation in the world is natural world! You will never forget the sceneries that surround you here. Lunch and transfer to the Village where we can take a shower or drive to the artificial lake. Free time. Night is in the home stay. Day 11: Transfer to Bishkek city We will drive to Bishkek city in the morning. You will be carried away by the astonishing landscapes offered through views of the untouched nature. You will have free time in the city to go for shopping and to walk. You will have a dinner in a restaurant in the evening. This night you will spend in the hotel***. Day 12: Transfer to the airport At the pick up time arranged previously according to your flight details your guide will meet you in your hotel and accompany you to the International Airport of Manas.
