Kyrgyzstan trekking: Tour 03 Country: Kyrgyzstan Activity: Trekking tour Time of the tour: 7 days There is a great chance to feel the freedom of mind if you are tired of busy civilization. Wild and severe! Unforgettable experience, great nomadic adventure! During the trip you will find out about Kyrgyz traditions, customs and culture, because the Kyrgyz being nomads for thousand years managed to keep all their amazing traditions and customs till now days. This trekking tour is for those people who want to enjoy untouched nature of the celestial mountains and to visit numerous lakes with pure sparkling waters. Places to visit: Bishkek - Karakol - Mokraya Polyana - Eastern Irdik Lake - Western Irdik Lake - Karakol - Kochkor - Bishkek Day 1: Bishkek - Karakol (450 km - 8 h) (1 650 m. a. s. l.) In the morning we start our route to Karakol town that took place on the eastern part of the celestial Issyk-Kul Lake. On our way, we will visit the Burana Minaret (it dates from the 11th century) and an open air museum of Balbals - stone structures that are devoted to the brave Turkic warriors. Then you will be brought to the incredible Issyk-Kul Lake - the second largest alpine lake in the world (1608m.above sea level). The Lake is also called "the pearl of Kyrgyzstan". You are going to actually enjoy the incredible sight of the Kungey and Terskey Ala - Too Mountains that forming a circle around the lake. Due to the salty water, Lake Issyk Kul possesses curative properties. On the way, we will make a short break to give you the opportunity to visit ancient (dating back to 800 B.C.) open air stone temple that was used by the local tribes of the Saks and the Usuns whose artists left the petroglyphs on the boulders. During the drive to Karakol town we will see the whole part of the northern shore of Issyk Kul Lake. Overnight in a guesthouse "Elita" in Karakol.
Day 2: Karakol - Mokraya Polyana Glade (2790 m a. s. l.) In Karakol, in the morning we visit the Dungan mosque that it was built without using a single metal nail in the Chinese Style. This will be followed by the visit of Orthodox Cathedral that was constructed at the end of 19thcentury, and nowadays it attracts lots of tourists. After that you will be transferred to the amazing Gorge of Karakol that is situated at the heart of the Terskey Ala - Too (Shady Mountains). There we could see Turkistan spruce that is widespread in Kyrgyz Republic only here. The girth of its trunk - 1.5 meters and the tree reaches 18 meters in a high. We will have seven hours hiking to the glade foot named « Mokraya Polyana ». Overnight stay is at the altitude of 2790 m. above sea level in the tent camp.
Day 3: Mokraya Polyana glade - Eastern Irdik Lake (3 200 m. a. s. l.) In the morning we start our 7 hours hiking over the pass Bokovoi (3300 m.) to the eastern Irdik Lake (3200 m). We will see steep cliffs and precipices, sky-scraping rocks, green mountains; we move through the juniper forest where a sick person starts to feel better. During the hike we see constant changing of the landscapes, a breathtaking and unforgettable sunset over the most beautiful peaks of Kungey Ala-Too mountainous range: Fuchika (4010m), Morozov (3960m), 800 years of Moscow (3872m). Overnight is in tents.
Day 4: Eastern Irdik Lake - Western Irdik Lake (3 300 m. a. s. l.) We will hike today for about seven hours. We will see on the way lots of edelweiss fields (the flowers of love) and summer pastures that are used by the Kyrgyz nomads. At the altitude of 3650 meters a. s. l. we will see many marmots. We will hike over Severnyi pass, which highest point is 3380 m. above sea level. You are going to forget about busy civilization while hiking in these places. You could really relax enjoying surrounding nature amazing views. We will st up our camp at the altitude of 3300 meters a. s. l. This night will be spent in tents.
Day 5: Western Irdik Lake - Karakol (1 650 m. a. s. l.) After breakfast we start our hiking with descent to Diychin valley (5h) where many dungan people live. Today, we stopover in the Dungan family house to try traditional lagman soup. Dungans are Chinese Muslims who had been persecuted by the Chinese in the 19th century and fled to Kyrgyzstan. While hiking to the village it is possible sometimes to meet real nomadic families on the way. Every summer season they go up to the mountains with their sheep and horses and live in yurts. Yurts are collapsible nomadic habitations, which are made without a single nail. Afterwards transfer to Karakol town(1650 m); (10 km - 25 min drive). Overnight in "Elita" guesthouse.
Day 6: Karakol - Kochkor (280 km - 5 h, 1800 m. a. s. l.) After a good sleep, in the morning we move to Kochkor Village that is in Naryn Region. But before that, in Karakol, we will try national dishes such as ashlyamfu and shashlyk made of beef or lamb and visit local bazaar. After that we will start our trip to Kochkor Village. En route we will visit Djeti Oguz (Seven Bulls) Mountains that are very popular due to their beauty. You will see also the Broken Heart - red sandstone mountain that is split in two parts,which you will be told a beautiful legend about by your guide. We will visit a private factory for yurts production on the southern shore of Issyk - Kul Lake. Lunch will be served in Talgat's House in Bokonbaevo Village. Talgat is a famous hunter with golden eagles. Hunting with golden eagle is very popular in Kyrgyz Republic and Central Asia. Talgat will tell us about this kind of hunting and we can do some photos of the birds in the afternoon. Upon arrival in Kochkor we could learn about Kyrgyz national customs and traditions, visit a handicraft museum and watch the traditional Kyrgyz carpets process making. Also we will see and participate in yurt settling process. "Yurta" is traditional collapsible nomadic felt dwelling. You will listen to the Folk-concert in the evening. Carpet-making show is organized specially for you. Dinner is served in the yurt. You will spend this night in the guesthouse. Day 7: Kochkor - Bishkek (210 km - 5 h) After breakfast we drive to the capital of Kyrgyzstan - Bishkek city. In the morning you will have a traditional breakfast together with hosts. After arriving you will have some time to take a break in your guesthouse and then will be the last dinner in national café with national music. Last night is in «Asia Mountains» hotel.
